@wachaufeuropa The Franks only populated the northern part of the Roman Gaul, and some parts of the east by the burgunds. There’s a very interesting map on internet. Search for “Ancetres Genetiques Des Français, but I agree that the three most important ethnic ancestors of french are Celtic, Latin and Germanic. What it surprised me is that there was roman population in the middle of the Gaul. By the way I’m Francomexicain, I consider myself celtic-iberic-germanic-mexican. Best Regards.

@wachaufeuropa Hi, I’m reading your comments, no, you’re wrong, most of french population is celtic, only around 33% have germanic roots either celtic-germanic or germanic, some statistics says 30% is closely “pure” celtic”, and the remaining percent is celtic-mediterranean such as celtic-iberic, celtic-latin or celtic italic in general.

@CrazyKraut20 Wasn’t Seneca a cynic philosopher? I guess that would make sense considering the name. Anyways he believed that anger, grief, etc. came about because people set their standards too high for the world. For example a servant at a party accidentally dropped a tray of crockery causing it to shatter. The host got so angry he threw the servant into his private pool of lampreys to be eaten alive. He did this because basically he thought he lived in a world where crockery didn’t break

He was ruthless but he was also the greatest figure in history .Adored by his army ,a genius politician and soldier who in the end wanted peace and prosperity.Hail Caesar!

  5. SpidahRidah

@MrRandomshoe because Cæsar lived in the early ages of the Roman Empire, before they had organized the Cohort system.

  6. Kathrinoyo

@CrazyKraut20 Oh – my – fucking – god. You totally fall for it. Please read some real history books, go to a university or something and release YOUR mind from this garbage. It’s propaganda. Hadrian, Pius, Marcus Aurelius and Titus weren’t “exeptional human beings”, nor were Caligula or Nero pure “tyrants” (Commodus is arguable). It’s what historically alduterate bastards like Seneca wanted the world to believe. Well, they got what the wanted appearently, which is sad to say the least.

@black00dice well since the Caesar took Gaul In 54-44 BC a while after the marian reforms that took out the Hastati-Principes-Triarii set-up and his legions had the Lorica hamata style of Armour which is essentially Chain-mail, but how do I need to brush up on my Roman military history I may not know everything but I do know enough.

  8. romancostumes

    Those costumes are great.

  9. black00dice

@MrRandomshoe you need to brush up on your roman military history

  10. tomlobello

    Ave Caesar! Morituri te salutamus!

  11. MrRandomshoe

    ….why does Caesar have Hastati ? :3

  12. cartoonkingforeever

@Categorycinque well America is like Rome in someway, just like Rome America’s republic has failed and has been corrupted by the rich, we need an emperor to come and bring order back the country,

  13. SoneeThe

    thanks

  14. MrDev809

@truesemite You can not say anything about us I doubt you even live here. How dare you say anything about us, and how the HELL can you possibly defend terrorists, HOW THE HELL can you do that, how about you say that to the 3000 victims of 9/11, oh, wait you can’t cause they are dead.

  15. ozipk

@TheDarkFrontier Shit on me and worship my testes.

  16. winningtrolls

ok sow i see some of u people dont really know sh*t sow let me give some history lesson sum gauls were barbaric in nature while others where romanized. the closer your tribe lived to rome the more civilized u were. two julius cesar had to put some of those tribes to the sword either because they would give in or because they broke promises to my man julius himself, he not only put them to the sword he also inslaved an estimated 10 percent of the population and thats a low figure.

  17. winningtrolls

Julius cesar was a hero, yes he slaughterd gauls but sombody had too, He granted mercy to many of people only time and time again, he granted mercy to the men who killed him, he granted mercy too any one whom gave themselves up to him. he was a roman god of mercy. He loved his soilders and his soilders loved him, with love u can conquer all. on the other hand pompey barly new whom he was fighting with and for. those people who hate on my homeboy cesar need to get real.

  18. seth61682

@snotnoseclimber a tv program that based its story on true events.

  19. Categorycinque

@truesemite…Caesar not arrogant? Are you kidding? Gaul not barbaric? They were filthy and uneducated by any standard-old or new. Rome plunders like the US? Rome was a parasitic state unable to survive without plunder. The US is rich in everything and did NOT invite itself to two world wars or 9/11 (yes, they made errors in other places), but don’t deny the reality of terrorism to satisfy your point. It’s intellectually dishonest.

  20. snotnoseclimber

@truesemite oh come on get over it its just a TV programme!!

  21. TheRugbyfullback

@truesemite how would you know? are 2011 years old?

  22. ScientificBob

@truesemite Beyond a doubt, Romans were a conquering people with a serious superiority complex. But to say that Gauls etc weren’t barbaric is to deny history.
These were primitive people (compared to Rome) and they WERE pretty barbaric – even by Roman standards. Then again, which people weren’t barbaric back then? The thing is that you can’t use our current interpretation for that word and apply it to the standards of those days…

  23. AbusedHamster

“The most famous Roman of them all”….what a way to be remembered more than 2000 years after your death!

  24. truesemite

it’s ridiculous how this movie dipicted the gauls as barbarians in typical roman propaganda way seasoned with some hollywood effects, in a way rome was hypocritical just like the U.S today, they slaughter other nations and plunder them, call them barbarians or in America’s case terrorists and give themselves some moral superiority over other people to which nobody buys but their own citizens….still i adore rome and especially caesar.
PS caesar was not aragont like they depicted him here

  25. LukeGeoDude

@CrazyKraut20 I would rather not see those. Take Marcus Aurelius for example, he was truly a magnificent, great, exceptional man, now who is talented and EDUCATED enough to make a PROPER movie about him? I can’t think of anybody really, nor do I think that it would be profitable to fully explain his personality, and that is why nobody would do it. Hollywood is nothing but a profit machine nowadays, a cheap and rich profit machine.
